If things had worked out differently, Paddy McAllister could have been preparing for another tilt at his home province Ulster on Saturday evening.

Instead, the former Connacht prop – who began his career over a decade ago at Ulster but also spent time at French club Aurillac and English Premiership side Gloucester – might now simply catch the game on TV as he and professional rugby parted company last summer.
