Rodney Ah You has signed a new deal with Ulster

Former Ireland international prop Rodney Ah You will remain with Ulster after agreeing a new deal with the province.

The contract extension, the length of which remains undisclosed, will see Ah You play at least a third season at Kingspan Stadium having joined in 2016.

It's an interesting call from Ulster, who now have four tighthead props on the books having re-signed the 29-year old naturalised Kiwi.

Ah You will be competing with established options Wiehahn Herbst and Ross Kane, as well as new signing Marty Moore, for playing time.

Another to factor into the tighthead logjam is Academy prop Tom O'Toole, who showed promising signs towards the end of last season and would have played for Ireland's Under-20s over the summer but for injury.

With the expectation being that Ulster will be focusing more on bringing through O'Toole this season, it will be interesting to see where Ah You fits into the system.

Already well down the pecking order, and likely to be pushed further down by Moore's arrival, getting minutes looks to be a tall order for the former Connacht man.

However, this deal allows him to try and re-establish himself as the international level prop he once was and to build on the 35 caps he's won for Ulster.
