Ulster captain Rory Best suffers hamstring injury

By Adam McKendry

Ulster and Ireland captain Rory Best has been ruled out for six weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury in training yesterday.

The hooker was seen leaving training yesterday on crutches, and a scan today revealed damage that is set to keep him out of Ulster’s first two Champions Cup pool games against Wasps and La Rochelle.

With Best having played no rugby since the British and Irish Lions tour, this injury is likely to impact on his chances of being selected for Ireland’s November international Tests as well.

The 35-year old was set to return to provincial duty in the next couple of weeks but will now have to prolong that wait following the setback.

The timing of his return, however, is set to coincide with Ulster’s big interprovincial clash with Leinster at the Kingspan Stadium at the end of October.
