Ulster expect new signing Speight to be a major hit

By Jonathan Bradley

Ulster's Operations Director Bryn Cunningham believes the province's new signing Henry Speight can make a similar impact at Kingspan Stadium to his compatriot Christian Leali'ifano.

Leali'ifano was a huge hit in Belfast when pulling on the white jersey for five months last season, with his Brumbies team-mate Speight due to arrive imminently on a similar deal.

And while the addition of an international-class wing is a boost even if just in the short-term, Cunningham is hoping that the 19-times-capped Wallaby can act as something of a mentor for younger players.

"Henry has X-factor quality and has consistently proven himself as a top performer at both Super Rugby and at international level, with his most recent displays for the Brumbies being eye-catching," said Cunningham.

"His presence will also support the development of the young back three players within our senior and Academy squads. We saw the significant impact Christian had on Johnny McPhillips last year and we would hope that Henry will provide us with something similar."

His contract will run until December 31 of this year.
