Wasps centre Dominic Waldouck's hopes of forcing his way into England World Cup contention have been ended by injury.
Wasps have confirmed the 23-year-old faces six months out after suffering a torn Achilles during an Aviva Premiership game against London Irish last weekend.
Waldouck, who toured Australia with Martin Johnson's senior England squad last summer, is set to undergo surgery on Friday.
"We are all disappointed for Dom, who is a key part of our side," said Leon Holden, Wasps' interim rugby director.
"He had been playing very well in recent games, so this is a big blow for us.
"However, he is a fit young player and I am sure he will come back even stronger next season. We will be giving him all the help we can to get him back fit and sharp."
