Wales v Japan ratings

Wales player ratings

LIAM WILLIAMS: Early yellow card for cynical obstruction but impressive under the high ball and some nice touches. 6 out of 10.

LEIGH HALFPENNY: Switched from full-back to wing and dangerous with ball in hand, kicking as reliable as ever. 7

JONATHAN DAVIES: Strong with ball in hand and defenders found him difficult to stop when in full flow. 7

JAMIE ROBERTS: Bulldozing breaks and provided good finish for second try, but remains a one-dimensional player. 6

ALEX CUTHBERT: Short on confidence and it showed as he butchered a couple of chances to score. 5

GARETH ANSCOMBE: Set up try and looked more comfortable at 10, but threw interception pass for first Japan try. 6

LLOYD WILLIAMS: Saw plenty of front-foot ball without quite making the most of it before making way early in the second half. 5

NICKY SMITH: Ospreys prop showed up well in the loose and carried well when he had the opportunity. 6

SCOTT BALDWIN: Powerful ball carrier and showed soft hands with cute pass to Warburton. 6

SAMSON LEE: Scrummaged well but injury seems to have reduced his effectiveness around the pitch. 5

CORY HILL: Made his full debut and impressed in patches before being withdrawn in second half. 6

ALUN WYN JONES: Quieter than usual before providing spark with burst of pace for Warburton try. 6

DAN LYDIATE: Started the scoring with his first try in 59 Tests but days of him being shoo-in pick are over. 5

SAM WARBURTON: Excellent finish for second-half try but still feeling his way back after injury. 6

JAMES KING: Impressive off the back of the scrum and fronted up well in the physical exchanges. 7

Outside-half Sam Davies rescued a dire second-half performance from Wales with a match-winning drop goal in the final seconds.
