Waratahs leave it late

A Bernard Foley penalty goal after the siren earned the Waratahs a gutsy come-from-behind 30-27 victory over the Blues in a thrilling encounter at Allianz Stadium.

The Waratahs scored the opening try through Drew Mitchell, but the Blues responded emphatically to lead 24-10 at the interval thanks to touchdowns from James Parsons, Chris Noakes and Charles Piutau. Israel Folau started the hosts' comeback with a try before Foley barged over in the 66th minute to draw his side level at 24-24.

Foley and Noakes traded penalties in the final 10 minutes before Culum Retallick was penalised for offside after the siren. Second-choice kicker Foley held his nerve to slot the winning goal from 35 metres out and directly in front to spark jubilant celebrations among Waratahs players and the raucous 16,429 crowd.
