Wayne hat-trick in easy Malone win
Malone Fifth's Wayne McCormick scored his second hat-trick of tries this season when his team ran in seven in their Minor East Two 46-0 win over Ballymoney Fifths on Saturday.
It was a very physical game with the scoreline rather flattering the victors. Malone are now the only team with full points, eight after four fixtures but are only fourth in the table as Ballynahinch Sevenths and CIYMS Fourths have 12 from seven and Ards Fourths 11 from 6.
An early Chris Shaw penalty was followed by McCormick showing his determination and speed for his first and then a quickly taken penalty led to his second. A chip and chase followed by a Ballymoney defensive error allowed captain Tristan McCorry to dash in for the next.
Ballymoney started the second period strongly and despite their best efforts they were unable to reduce the arrears.
Malone always looked dangerous and given half a chance the ball was whipped out to their three-quarters.
Outside centre James Conway scored a fantastic solo effort try and then more good running by McCormick led to substitute Ben Suri touching down.
Full back Eddie York then proceeded to race in from halfway before McCormick added his third for Shaw to convert four.
Captain McCorry thought it was a commendable defensive performance.
McCorry said: "Hooker Cathal McSorley never put a foot wrong and earned the Man of the Match while flankers Jonathan Keighley and Jokin Egana were also superb.
Other East Tw results: Ards IV 20 Larne III 0, Ophir II 19 Carrickfergus IV 41. CIYMS IV v Randalstown III was postponed.
