Runher: Alanna Audley-Murphy weighs in for the Titanic Runher

By Amanda Ferguson

She packs a mighty punch but now Commonwealth Games boxing bronze medallist Alanna Audley-Murphy is taking on a new type of challenge.

The Eastside Boxing Club athlete is making her competitive running debut at the new Belfast Telegraph Runher Titanic 10k event on October 5. Audley-Murphy runs with partner Chez, also a boxer, as part of their training schedule, but Titanic Runher will be her first competitive running event as the couple prepare to run both the London and Belfast marathons in 2015.

Runher, a women-only event, is open to walkers, joggers and runners. There will be no sweat-inducing hills to contend with during Runher's latest venture as the new route through Titanic Quarter is completely flat. Starting at the slipways, the route takes in roads close to the iconic Harland and Wolff cranes as well as Victoria Park and the new Sam Thompson Bridge.

Runher race director Michael Jenkins, from Pure Running, said he was excited to introduce another new dimension to the Runher portfolio of events: "Belfast Telegraph Runher has been operational for eight years with both our Stormont and Coastal events proving extremely popular," he said. "The organising team believed another new challenge was important to keep Runher fresh and innovative."

Entrants are being urged to get children involved in the re-Runher Dash 4 Kids. A new element to this autumn's event will be the Big School Run starting at noon before the main 10k event at 2pm.

The Big School Run is open to all secondary level school students individually, both male and female, and from first to sixth year. This schools event – new for 2014 – is free to enter and Team Runher will be giving out spot prizes and goody bags.
