Northern Ireland's Mark Allen is through to the last-16 of the UK Championship at the York Barbican after he defeated Hossein Vafaei 6-2 in their third round tie last night.
Antrim cueman Allen was never challenged by Vafaei, who has caused him problems in the past. On this occasion, the Iranian only troubled himself.
The World No.39 played several poorly chosen shots during the match and that allowed Allen to seize full control.
From the start it was clear that Allen, the World No.7, was a cut above as he rattled off breaks of 83, 87 and 56 on his way to an early three-frame lead.
However, the Iranian hit back by dominating the next two frames, winning the fifth with a break of 94.
But Allen sealed his victory by winning the final three on the bounce, including breaks of 87 and 60, to earn his place in the next round.
Allen will play Australia's Neil Robertson, who he defeated in the International Championship final last month, for a place in the quarter-finals, with that match getting under way at 7pm tonight.
