White and Allen progress but big names exit early

Fans favourite Jimmy White turned back the clock yesterday to clinch a place in the second round of the Northern Ireland Open with an impressive victory over veteran Dominic Dale.

Whirlwind White was made to work hard for his win over the Welshman at the Waterfront Hall, eventually triumphing 4-3, while Antrim potter Mark Allen also navigated his way into the second round - the World No.6 overcoming Sanderson Lam 4-2.

However, there was disappointment for Belfast cueman, Joe Swail, who lost 4-3 to young Chinese star Lyu Haotian, with Shaun Murphy another big name player to suffer an early exit following a shock 4-1 defeat by Chen Zifan of China.
