Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards: Local heroes - Slaughtneil GAA club
Slaughtneil is a small rural parish situated in South Derry with around 300 families.
Gaelic Games plays a huge part in the community and in 2016 the Slaughtneil GAA club had a year to savour.
Remarkably Slaughtneil's football, hurling and camogie teams all won their respective Ulster Championship titles - a feat never achieved before. Some GAA experts say it will never happen again.
Regardless of what occurs in the future, Slaughtneil will always have its place in Ulster sporting history.
THREE teams. THREE Ulster titles. In ONE year. And to think that many of the players achieved success with both the football and hurling teams.
For the record the camogie and hurling teams beat Loughgiel Shamrocks in their respective finals while the footballers defeated Kilcoo in their decider.
The celebrations in the town just kept on going as triumph followed triumph and all thanks to the true Local Heroes of Slaughtneil.
