Campbell boys are on fire as Regent ace Reid breaks record

By David Kelly

Campbell College are celebrating a plethora of medals at the Ulster Schools championships in Bangor Aurora.

Campbell's intermediate team of Paddy Johnston, Oliver Chamber, Oliver Creaney, Finlay Stafford and Tommy Aitken fought off stiff competition to lift the Ulster title and the school's juniors then backed that up with some glory of their own.

Matthew Hand, Jake Stafford, Dominic Allen, Michael McCann, Mark Kelly and Toby Thompson landed the Ulster Junior trophy.

Both the junior and intermediate teams won gold in the medley and freestyle relays, while Johnston took individual gold in the 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke. Dynamic Hand also scooped double gold in the 100m breast and 100m 'fly.

The outstanding performance came from Rebecca Reid of Regent House, who picked up two individual golds, including the 200 individual medley in which she clocked 2:16.23, breaking the previous Ulster junior record set by Olympian Sycerika McMahon.

Northern Ireland stars Conor Ferguson, Calum Bain, Conor Brines, Danielle Hill and Jordan Sloan are part of a 10-strong Irish squad heading to the European short course championships in December in Copenhagen.
