Olympic hero Kerri-Anne all set to make a big splash in Belfast

By Adam McKendry

Team GB's Olympic silver medallist and two-time world 10km open water swimming champion Kerri-Anne Payne will be hosting a free swimming masterclass in Belfast tomorrow.

The South African-born champion swimmer will be welcoming adult participants of all abilities to the Olympia Leisure Centre on Boucher Road for two sessions - one in the morning and one in the evening.

It's all part of leisure operator Better's brand new free Swim Doctor programme, which aims to help improve swimmers through an extensive bespoke training regime, and is available at all Better locations.

Payne will provide three hours of coaching, which will include practical training in the pool as well as theoretical training.

The 29-year-old will touch upon her own Olympic experiences, while also discussing dietary advice and mental wellbeing to help Northern Ireland swimmers reach their full potential.

"I'm a passionate advocate of swimming for fitness and wellbeing, it's an exciting and rewarding sport that people of any age and any ability can enjoy and should join in with," Payne commented.

"I know there are a huge range of people who take part for many different reasons, whether it's to get fitter, complete a personal challenge, or work towards a swimming event.

"I'm hoping we can encourage even more people to get involved and experience the joy of using swimming as a tool for fitness themselves."

Ross Payne, Aquatics Project Manager for Better, added: "Industry figures show that activated swimming sessions, like those we will be offering through Swim Doctor, encourage positive behavioural change.

"A massive 93% of adults increase the amount they swim as a result of sessions like these."
