Karola Bejenaru failed narrowly in her bid to lift a third career doubles title at a $15,000 tournament in France yesterday.

Partnered by German woman Yana Morderger, the 21-year-old Windsor player went down 3-6 7-6 10-5 to French pair Emeline Dartron and Mylene Halemai.

However, it's been a good few weeks for Bejenaru, who earlier at the tournament in Dijon collected a singles world ranking point by reaching the second round.

It was the Belfast-based Romanian's third doubles final in as many weeks yesterday and, even with one win and two losses, her world ranking is set to soar.

Only last month, Bejenaru was a lowly 1020th on the world ladder but now she is likely to secure a new career-high, beating her previous best doubles ranking of 743rd, achieved almost two years ago.

Next up is a similar tournament in France next week, while the Bothwell brothers Peter and Sam, from Hillsborough, are in Portugal for a men's Futures Tour event, starting with qualifying tomorrow.
