Konta can be queen of SW19: Mac
Three-time Wimbledon champion John McEnroe believes Johanna Konta has just as much chance as anybody else of winning her first Grand Slam title at SW19 this year.
The tennis legend watched British No.1 Konta ease into the second round with a 7-5 6-2 win over Ana Bogdan, and afterwards was confident there's the possibility she'll go all the way.
"Right now, Jo has a great chance of getting to the final and even winning it. It's wide open," claimed McEnroe.
"And there's every chance of it being a first-time Slam winner this year. We've had nine different (female) Grand Slam winners in the last 10, so why not Jo?"
Elsewhere on day two, Maria Sharapova was forced to retire hurt in her first round match against Pauline Parmentier, while two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova progressed.
In the men's singles there were comfortable first round wins for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
