Johanna Konta suffered a first-round defeat at the Rogers Cup in Toronto as the British No.1 was beaten in straight sets by 19-year-old Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.

Playing for the first time since her Wimbledon quarter-final loss to Barbora Strycova, Konta was beaten 6-3 6-2 in an hour and 21 minutes.

The 28-year-old made a promising start to the contest, breaking her opponent to go 2-1 up.

But Yastremska immediately broke back and added another break four games later as she won three in a row to secure the first set.

Konta was then broken in two successive service games to fall 5-2 down in the second before Yastremska served the match out, sealing victory on her fifth match point.

In the men's event in Montreal, British No.2 Cameron Norrie set up a second-round meeting with third seed Alexander Zverev as he came from a set down to beat Hungary's Marton Fucsovics.

Norrie battled back impressively after being broken three times in the first set, winning 5-7 6-2 6-3 in two hours and seven minutes.
