Rising star Jordan in impressive form at Malahide ITF qualifiers

Jordan McKeown continued his impressive season by booking his place in the main draw at the Malahide junior ITF tournament yesterday after coming through qualifying without dropping a set.

The newly-crowned Ulster senior champion will join Peter Corrie in the last 32 after the Hilden player was handed an automatic place due to his superior world ranking.

Seventeen-year-old McKeown started his campaign on Saturday with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win over England's Josh Curwen.

He then defeated sixth seeded qualifier Charlie Penman (GB) 6-3, 6-1 after starting yesterday with a 6-1, 6-0 success over Ireland's Denis Popa.

McKeown, who is a member of the Co Down-based AGP Academy, was the only Ulster qualifier after defeats for Harry Ellesmere, Peter Galt, Will Millar and Jack Hudson.

Jessica Leeman, who was given an automatic place in the main draw, will carry local hopes in the girls' event at Malahide which is the first of three consecutive Irish ITF tournaments, with the action switching to Belfast at the weekend.
