£40k Rory steal

New Northern Ireland international Rory Patterson last night joined Plymouth Argyle in one of the most amazing transfer deals ever.

Glentoran will pocket £40,000 for the ace striker without the Carling Footballer of the Year having kicked a ball for them.

That will leave his old club Coleraine furious and Glens fans bewildered since their club snapped up Patterson on a pre-contract agreement in January.

But his red-hot scoring form, as he finished the season with the Bannsiders, won him a Northern Ireland call-up and attracted cross-channel interest.

And last night League One side Plymouth stumped up the cash to prise the 25-year-old away from the east Belfast club before he had even landed at The Oval.
