A community living in fear
It used to be one of the safest communities in Northern Ireland — but now burglars are striking fear into the hearts of residents on Belfast's Donegall Road.
Last month 13 homes in the maze of tightly-knit streets around Windsor Park were broken into — the majority of which are occupied by pensioners.
The burglaries have caused panic among the area's sizeable elderly population, with many old folks now too afraid to sleep at night.
Grandmother Sadie Laird had her spic-and-span Rydlamere Street home broken into two weeks ago. She’s been living in fear ever since.
“I came down to use the loo in the middle of the night and there were two fellas there, about to go up my stairs,” explained Sadie.
