Those major NCU clubs, North Down and Lisburn, have proved their ambition down the years and recent events indicate they haven’t lost their appetite to progress even further .
Two developments at The Green in Comber and Wallace Park in Lisburn have brought a ringing endorsement from Sport NI and should help ensure a future every bit as distinguished as both clubs’ past.
First up, North Down which has become the first cricket club — indeed only the second sports club in Northern Ireland — to receive accreditation to the Clubmark NI Club scheme.
On the face of it, it’s hardly the most exciting piece of news to descend upon the local cricketing scene, but on closer examination it is a hugely significant development.
