
Peter Thompson believes Irish League sides stand a better chance than ever of progressing in the Setanta Sports Cup this time round — because of the near total demise of full-time football in the Republic.
So on the eve of Linfield’s first leg showdown with Dundalk at Windsor Park, Pistol Pete fires a warning shot across the bows of the visitors.Thommo says: “It’s no longer a case of full-time v part-time. All of a sudden it’s a more level playing field.
“In the past Irish League clubs have felt at a disadvantage but not any more.”
