Ball's in your court

Last week was hardly what you would call ideal.

The Ireland squad for Saturday’s Six Nations opener against Italy had assembled in Limerick but then it was largely all about a slow drip of bad news which just seemed to just drag on through the week, even impolitely intruding on the immediate aftermath of Declan Kidney’s mid-week attendance at the official Six Nations launch in London.

Andrew Trimble, Shane Horgan, John Hayes, Tommy Bowe and Jamie Heaslip all withdrew for what could be up to two games due to their various injuries, joining Jerry Flannery on the soon-to-be-back list while Geordan Murphy and possibly Rob Kearney have to look beyond the Championship for their comebacks.
