Big Two Cup showdown

The magic of the JJB Irish Cup last night produced a mouthwatering Big Two quarter-final showdown.

Glentoran and Linfield go head to head at The Oval on March 6 after negotiating tricky ties yesterday. The Blues made lighter work of Dungannon Swifts than they might have expected, romping home 4-0 after two goals in a whirlwind opening six minutes at Windsor Park in a game that saw four red cards.

Glentoran needed a last-gasp Gary Hamilton penalty to see off Championship 1 lowlights Ballyclare Comrades.

Holders Crusaders, who defeated Coagh United 4-0 yesterday, will play host to Portadown. The Ports ousted Cliftonville 2-1 at Shamrock Park, while a late Tony Grant strike booked Glenavon’s passage, 2-1, at the expense of Institute.

Glenavon landed Ballymena at home in the last eight while Coleraine will face one from the trio of await the outcome of Larne, Newry or Loughgall conundrum.

Coleraine hit Nortel for six and a Kevin Kelbie hat-trick helped Ballymena defeat hurdle a potential banana skin in the shape of plucky Ballinamallard.
