Blues are elected

David Jeffrey wrapped up a fourth League and Cup double in five years yesterday then confessed: “There was a time when I didn’t think I might be around to talk about it.”

Linfield triumphed 2-1 over Mid-Ulster giants Portadown at sun-kissed Windsor Park in a pulsating JJB Sports Irish Cup Final in front of 9,000 supporters.

On-loan star Peter Thompson and Philip Lowry grabbed the goals to clinch the trophy for an amazing 40th time. But after saluting the fans Jeffrey had time for sober reflection and opened his heart.
