Windsor Park staged its very own ‘royal celebrations’ yesterday — the crowning of Linfield as Carling Premiership champions.
The sun shone for the special occasion and how the fans, bedecked in red, white and blue, enjoyed the moment.
It didn’t really matter the outcome of the game against Portadown, supporters came to bask in the glory. After all the long running league battle had already been fought and handsomely won affording an air of relaxation at least in the stands.
That Linfield did in fact triumph for the 26th time in 38 starts was simply the icing on the cake.
And the season’s tally of 85 points set a new record, and if needed, gave the legions of Bluemen another reason to toast their heroes who were summoned one by one to receive mementos of the occasion.
