Bomb target's uncle will not condemn attack

The uncle of a female police officer who cheated death in a booby trap bomb attack last night refused to condemn the incident.

Army bomb experts yesterday dealt with the explosive device which fell from under the car of the Catholic policewomen in Kilkeel, Co Down.

The device was made safe near her home in Fearon Close, off the Scrogg Road in Kilkeel. She is the niece of independent republican councillor Martin Connolly, who left Sinn Fein three years ago when the party decided to support the PSNI.

Last night he declined to condemn the incident, saying he “did not want to get into the politics of condemnation”.
