Boss backs Meeke after latest flop

Kris Meeke’s chances of retaining his Intercontinental Rally Challenge crown have surely floundered in a field in Flanders.

The Dungannon driver crashed out of the Ypres Rally, sixth round of the series, while battling for the lead with Belgian Freddy Loix.

It was Meeke’s second accident in successive rounds, his third of the year, and leaves him a distant fifth in the IRC standings.He was caught out by a fast but tightening right-hand bend on the eighth stage of the Belgian event, his Peugeot catching the grass on the outside and somersaulting into a field.
