Celebrities get behind Derry man's cancer charity single
Ronan Keating, Westlife and The Script are just three of the famous names to get behind a local cancer charity single.
Newly crowned Mr Derry Emmette Dillon has teamed up with X-Factor singer and Mr Donegal Dylan Reid to write and produce ‘Walk With Me’, a song dedicated to anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer, and the celebrity endorsements just keep flowing.
“Mark Feehily from Westlife was the first celebrity to share our video which was amazing and then Matt Goss (lead singer of 1980s pop group Bros), who has been out in Las Vegas, also sent us a private message wishing us all the best.
“He’s got a huge fan base so for him to have showed his support of the single has been great,” said Emmette who lost his mother, Annemarie, to cancer in February 2014.
“We sent the single to Ronan Keating (left) and his management team and they all loved it.
“Kym Marsh, Lisa Maxwell from Loose Women and The Script have also shared our song on Twitter and (actress and producer) Roma Downey took the time to send a message to me personally and give her support which I thought was really nice,” added 26-year-old Emmette.
The idea for Emmette’s single
— funds of which will be shared between the Foyle Hospice where Annemarie passed away and The Marie Keating Foundation — came to him as he lay in bed unable to sleep one night.
“It was the middle of the night and I was just lying there wondering what my mum would be thinking right now. I wondered if she was proud of me, if she thought I was making the most of life — just things like that.
“So I got my phone out and started typing some lyrics and then I got in touch with Dylan to see if he would like to get involved and, within two hours of being together, the song could not have been more perfect,” revealed the Altnagelvin staff nurse.
“My mum was my best friend. She was only 45 when she died of cancer. She was so passionate about raising both cancer awareness and the need for the age of cancer screening to be lowered — she was too young to receive regular screening when she was first diagnosed — and I hope this single can help do that.”
'Walk With Me' is available to buy via iTunes, GooglePlay, Amazon and all leading online retailers.
