Double Eur money

Linfield celebrated another historic League and Cup double yesterday — then landed a massive 100,000 euro favour from fellow blues Everton.

The Toffees’ 2-1 victory over Manchester City means that David Jeffrey’s men — who roared from behind to beat Crusaders 2-1 in the JJB Sports Irish Cup Final — will be handed an automatic passport to the second qualifying round of next season’s Champions League.

City’s Goodison defeat kicked off a sequence of changes, with the Blues set to benefit to the tune of that £88,000 qualifying bonanza added to the £25,000 for their Cup win.

“This is another very welcome bonus for us and one that we’re very happy to have come our way in our 125th anniversary season,” said a delighted Jeffrey.
