Downed at the death
Dublin undertook novel preparations for last night’s Allianz Football League Division One tie against Down in front of 35,264 fans at Croke Park by limbering up during the week at Celtic’s Parkhead headquarters in Glasgow.
But it was a gigantic slice of luck more than sophisticated training methods that ultimately ensured they booked their place in the league final when Alan Brogan swept home a goal deep in the bowels of added time after Down’s Kalum King had failed to hold a cross from Brogan’s brother Bernard.
The sides had been level for the ninth time in the game at that stage at 1-10 to 0-13 but the Brogan brothers conspired to jettison Down’s ambition of staying in the hunt for the title.
