Driven to gastric action
A super-sized Ulster politician has revealed how he had his stomach stapled to stop him eating himself to death.
The once-morbidly obese Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman Paul Porter, said that wanting to see his two beautiful young children grow up spurred him to take the drastic step to shrink his stomach.
The 38-year-old flew with his family to Belgium in January where he underwent gastric bypass surgery to reduce his stomach to the size of an egg.
Since then, the city’s first citizen has watched as his weight literally dropped off and now the eight stone-lighter politician is hoping that others can be inspired by his story.
