Emotional farewell to Crumlin teenager who died in Spain weeks after dad

By John Toner

A Crumlin teenager has been laid to rest just weeks after the death of his father.

Henry Turley (14), from Crumlin, Co Antrim, died on holiday in Spain on Wednesday, July 19 after falling from a balcony in the early hours of the morning.

Hundreds of mourners packed into the Mater Dei church on Glenavy Road yesterday, with standing room only at the back and people spilling out onto the steps at the entrance.

Children and teenagers wept as young Henry's remains were carried into the church.

His little sister Maisie gave a reading from the Bible and mourners wiped away tears as her tiny voice filled the atrium.

Teenager Henry fell 20ft from a balcony at Eix Lagotel in the beach resort of Playa de Muro, Majorca.

He had reportedly overbalanced on the second floor balcony shortly before midnight on July 19 and his mother Claire Turley held on to his hand before he fell.

Despite being rushed to the Son Espases Hospital in Majorca, and being treated in intensive care, the youngster died of his injuries which officials said included a punctured lung and head trauma.

After her son's body had been returned home, his mum posted on Facebook that she was "heartbroken" and thanked friends and family for their love and support.

She said: "Once again we find ourselves in the shattering situation of having to thank you all for your love and support at this horrific time."

The family requested people make donations to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, which helps families return the bodies of their loved ones from abroad, instead of leaving floral tributes.

Young Henry's death is the second tragedy to hit the family in a matter of weeks after his father, talented tattoo artist Stephen Turley, died suddenly last month.

Stephen, who was the owner of Ten Storey Tattoo on Main Street, Crumlin, was found dead at a friend's house at the beginning of June.

He was laid to rest on Friday, June 6 just a month after celebrating his wedding anniversary with wife Claire.

His sister Laura paid tribute to him on Facebook, saying: "I love you with all of my heart and will always be with you.. `even If we're just dancing in the dark'.

"I love you my little brother."

Henry Turley is survived by his mother Claire, brother Caleb and sister Maisie.
