Lisa McGee uses former SDLP leader John Hume peace process tactics to calm herself down in rows.
The Derry Girls creator said when she finds herself in a tight spot she turns to the late politician who was instrumental in the peace process.
She said: “Oh, God. I have a thing now — I don’t even know if I should say because maybe it’s a bit disrespectful — but if I’m feeling angry or having an extreme opinion about something, I just go, “What would John Hume (the politician who steered the peace process) do?” What he constantly did was drag things into the middle, because that’s where stuff gets solved. I’ve always felt proud of where I come from. But we are different. We’re not really British, and we’re not really that type of Irish that Dubliners are.”
