Tragedy halted yesterday’s Skerries Road Races, north of Dublin, following a fatal accident which claimed the life of Myles Byrne from Dunshaughlin, near Ashbourne, Co Meath.
The accident — which also left a spectator seriously injured — occurred on the opening lap of the Grand Final on the approach to Dublin Road Corner. Racing was immediately abandoned.
Byrne had been a regular competitor on the Irish road race scene and had participated in the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man.
