Aspiring choice: Aspire Plus Lounge at Newcastle Airport
While waiting on the flight back to Belfast after my cruise, I availed of the Aspire Plus Lounge at Newcastle Airport.
The airport lounge offers the perfect way to unwind before a flight, with a selection of unlimited food and drink and excellent wi-fi. When you take into consideration how much you eat and drink in an airport, never mind the comfort of a chilled-out lounge, you can easily rack up a bigger bill than the lounge fee.
Sip & Stone restaurant at Belfast International Airport charges an outrageous £13.29 for three rashers, three fried eggs, three sausages and baked beans — with a PG Tips teabag and hot water costing a further £3.15.
At the vastly superior Aspire Lounges, there is a great selection of beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks so there is something for everyone and it is all included in the entrance price.
When I was there, there was some lovely mushroom soup and cajun pasta for lunch as well as a selection of salads, meats, cheese and desserts, including caramel shortbread. At breakfast times, the Aspire Lounges offer a hot breakfast as well as a range of cereals, fruits, pastries and yoghurts.
