Feeno: I feared I'd never walk again

Northern Ireland ace Warren Feeney explained last night how he feared a freak training ground injury had left him paralysed.

Striker Feeno was rushed to hospital with suspected spinal damage after the incident at his club, Oldham, left him flat on his back, unable to move.

The 29-year-old has been ordered to rest after treatment and is expected to make a full recovery but misses Wednesday’s Windsor Park friendly against Morocco.

He admitted last night: “I was frightened, more than I’ve ever been in my career. I couldn’t move, all I could do was lie there and wait for the ambulance while the medical staff put me on a spinal board.

“The pain was terrible and I feared the worst but, after a night in hospital, it turned out to be spasms from the way I landed after heading a ball.

“There’s inflammation though so I’ll still be out for a month.”
