Football boss says 'no' to election run

Former Ulster soccer boss and radio sports pundit Liam Beckett has said ‘No’ to a career in politics.

The ex-Cliftonville and Institute manager has blown the whistle on efforts to persuade him to stand in the forthcoming local council elections.

The BBC Radio Ulster soccer and motorcycling commentator politely declined to reveal which party attempted to attract him into the political arena.

But Sunday Life understands it was the DUP that approached him to be one of its candidates in the May council elections.
