Golf ace Graeme McDowell has been nursing a secret heartache while celebrating his US Open win.
The 30-year-old’s mum Marian is battling Multiple Sclerosis and was unable to go to the United States to watch his win or to attend his welcome home reception last Wednesday in Portrush.
Instead dad Kenny was by his son’s side cheering him on as he amazingly became the first European star to lift the trophy since the legendary Tony Jacklin back in 1970.
So instead of making her way to Pebble Beach on the California coastline, mum Marian was in Spain resting.
