Game of Thrones stars swapped capes for dance shapes on Friday as they celebrated the European premiere of the smash-hit show's final series in Belfast.

At a special VIP after-party at the Waterfront Hall cast members joined friends and family as they partied after Friday’s red carpet event.

Actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, dazzled in a white and silver frock in a nod to her impending nuptials with pop star Joe Jonas.

However, the 23-year-old later ditched the dress for the after-party, switching to red PVC trousers and a white Dickies T-shirt and trainers combo.

Close pal and fellow Thrones star Maisie Williams joined Sophie at the after-party but stuck to the custom-made pink frock and silver embroidered purse she wore on the red carpet.

As the drinks flowed the stars let their hair down after months of hard work on the set, joking and taking selfies.

At around midnight cast members departed the Waterfront for Belfast’s luxury Fitzwilliam Hotel where a private function continued to 2am.

However, Jon Snow actor Kit Harington, sporting his new clean-shaven look, skipped the late party.

And from 7am stars begain leaving the hotel for the airport where they were accompanied by a private close protection guard hired the production company.

The first episode of GoT season eight was screened to an exclusive group of corporate and media partners at the Waterfront Hall before the party.

Cast members walked the red carpet in Belfast for one last time in the place many of them have come to consider home as the series and their careers have grown.

Dubliner Liam Cunningham also was delighted to attend and revealed he contemplated a cheeky stunt as filming got underway in Belfast.

Liam, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, planned to go into a Belfast bookmakers in full costume in the hope of being pictured, such was the scale of speculation and betting on who will eventually take the Iron Throne.

He said: “I should have done it shouldn’t I? I’m full of good ideas that don’t happen!

"People were putting bets on who would end up on the throne and just as we were going into production, I thought if somebody caught Davos going in then he's gonna have the winning ticket.

"I wanted it to look like it was a spy shot but with me in costume with my little yellow docket stealing away from the bookies office."

He also revealed how filming GoT helped him to fall in love with the north. He added: "It's bizarre that an American company has opened my eyes to how gorgeous the place is up here.

"I'd never toured the area, I had been to Belfast a few times and filmed years ago in Portstewart but I had never been to so many other locations.

"Game of Thrones helped me discover Northern Ireland and it's a wonderful place. I've been bumping into people who are coming here on their honeymoon, five or 10 years ago could you imagine recommending Belfast for a honeymoon? It wouldn't have made any sense but now it kinda does and why shouldn't it? It's wonderful."

On Saturday morning, several stars were pictured leaving the Fitzwilliam Hotel looking somewhat worse for wear including Lisburn actor Richard Dormer, who plays Beric Dondarrion, and John Bradley, who plays Jon Snow's right hand man Samwell Tarly.
