Ireland book spot in cricket World Cup

Ireland are on their way to another cricket World Cup.

A truly convincing 65-run victory over The Netherlands in Dubai last night booked their flights to the West Indies in May for the Twenty20 championship.

It’s not often that semi finals are more important than a final but that’s the way it was in the heat — and then the floodlights — of the Dubai Sports City stadium.

First up, Afghanistan booked one of the two qualifying places with a four-wicket victory over UAE. Then it was Ireland’s moment of truth against the Dutch and a stunning all-round performance left no-one in any doubt as to the outcome.
