Irish pose a problem
Cricket’s governing body is calling it ‘The Irish Problem’ and finding a solution to it is being given priority at the highest level.
Ireland may well be on the way out of the World Cup in the sub-continent, with only the most unlikely sequence of results taking them through to the knock-out stages.
But their remarkable win over England, and serious respectability in the defeats by India and West Indies, have left the International Cricket Council’s top officials recognising “that something must be done for Ireland”.
I understand top of the agenda will be ways and means of achieving more official One-Day internationals against the frontline Test countries.
