Yesterday's sporting programme was ravaged by the wintry weather gripping the country — with last night's televised Barclays Premier League encounter at Bloomfield Road the biggest victim.
Blackpool had been preparing to play host to Manchester United for the first time since 1974 but concerns about the state of the Seasiders' pitch amid the sub-zero temperatures forced its postponement.
Blackpool's attempts to make the pitch playable, using protective coverings and hot-air blowers in the absence of under-soil heating, were in vain, and the match was officially called off yesterday after referee Peter Walton carried out an inspection.
