Ulster heart-throb Jamie Dornan and his new wife Amelia Warner are celebrating the news that they are to have a baby.

Just seven weeks after they married in a quiet ceremony in a beautiful country house in Somerset on April 27 the couple, both 31, have confirmed they are already looking forward to becoming parents.

Dornan, who has just been nominated for a Best Actor award for his portrayal of a psycho killer in the recent hit BBC drama The Fall, was home in Holywood, Co Down this week with his English actress wife to break the good news to family and friends.

And the mum-to-be was in good hands when she was given her first scan by her husband’s stepmum, Dr Samina Dornan.

Both Jamie’s dad Jim and his step mum Samina are well-known leading consultants in gynaecology and obstetrics. Jim Dornan is known in Northern Ireland as “the baby doctor”.

But it was Samina who had the pleasure of carrying out the first scan of her grandchild at Lisburn Road’s private 3fivetwo Healthcare clinic.

Samina is also a Consultant Sub-Specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine based in the Regional Unit at the Royal Maternity Hospital. She told Sunday Life: “Jim and I are delighted that our third grandchild is on the way.”

Samina, who carries out scans daily, also revealed how special it was to get to conduct the all important first scan on her grandchild: “The early wellbeing scanning was a beautiful and emotional experience for all present.”

News of the pitter patter of tiny feet comes just as the actor announced that he has become patron of the local premature baby charity Tinylife, of which his father Jim is President.

He and his wife are said to be thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents, as are the grandparents-to-be.

Jamie was remaining tight-lipped about their good news but last week said of married life: “It’s going well so far. It’s only been seven weeks and so it’s all fairly fresh.

“It doesn’t feel massively different to how our life was before. It’s good fun.”

He has also confirmed that he has been signed to again play the role of psycho Paul Spector in the second series of The Fall, for which filming will begin at the end of next January.

He has just been nominated for the first time for Best Actor in the 2013 TV Choice Awards for his role in the series. The Fall has also been nominated in the Best New Drama category and co-star Gillian Anderson is up for Best Actress.

The winners are selected by public vote on the TV Choice Awards website.

Handsome Jamie and gorgeous Amelia have both hit the headlines in the past for failed high profile romances, making their happy news all the more special.

He famously dated English actress Kiera Knightley for two years and his wife was briefly married to Hollywood star Colin Farrell.

Jamie, who has an older and a younger sister, lost his mum to pancreatic cancer when he was 16.

He dropped out of Teesside University and moved to London to train as an actor in his 20s.

He tried modelling and within a year of his first assignment he was dating Keira Knightley and plastered on billboards in Calvin Klein adverts.

The Co Down man became a pin-up, working alongside supermodels like Kate Moss and Eva Mendes and modelled for many world famous brands such as Dior and Armani.

It was on the set of an Asprey photoshoot in 2003 that he met Keira Knightley.

Acting was in his genes, as his great aunt was Hollywood screengoddess and Oscar-winner Greer Garson, who was born in Essex.

In 2006 he played a Swedish toff in the Kirsten Dunst film Marie Antoinette and he appeared in the drama film Shadows In The Sun in 2009, which starred three-time Academy Award nominee Jean Simmons. In 2008, he played the lead role of Ed in the Hammer Horror production Beyond the Rave.

In 2011, he featured in eight episodes of the ABC television series Once Upon A Time, playing the role of Sheriff Graham Humbert in the series which was aired in the UK on Channel 5.

His new wife Amelia is the daughter of Liverpool actress Anita Ekblom — who starred in both Brookside and Blood Brothers.

Ameilia has starred in films alongside Michael Caine and Charlize Theron, but is probably most noted in the media for her whirlwind marriage to Irish Hollywood heart-throb Colin Farrell.

The pair met more than a decade ago at the premiere of the movie Quills — in which she appeared with Joaquin Phoenix and Kate Winslet — and married in Tahiti, only to separate four months later.
