Linfield close in on title
Linfield could be celebrating a 50th League title this time next week after proving their credentials with a dramatic turnaround to sink Glentoran at The Oval yesterday.
Trailing 1-0 with four minutes to play, the Blues — who looked set to surrender their three-point lead over Crusaders at the top — showed their resolve to first level through Paul Munster and then hit a last-gasp winner from Michael Carvill.
If they can follow that up with a third successive Big Two derby triumph on Tuesday, then a win against Cliftonville next Saturday could be enough to secure the Gibson Cup.
