Mason's magic sets up a Giant triumph
Belfast Giants last night wowed the Odyssey crowd, dismantling the league leaders Sheffield Steelers to close the gap at the top to one point.
The Giants — playing in front of a crowd of 5670 people — won 5-2 in the biggest game of the season so far.
Belfast opened the scoring just over four minutes into the first period of play when defenceman Jeff Mason snuck his shot past Ervins Mustukovs in the net for the Steelers.
Three minutes later, it was Mason again, doubling the scoreline with his second of the night and 11th goal of the season to shock the Steelers, but the Giants weren’t finished yet in the first period.
