Newry could've been next Omagh
Bloodthirsty republican dissidents may have been intent on causing a “devastating” Omagh style town centre bomb massacre.
The chilling murder and mayhem scenario was painted by the PSNI, as it revealed yesterday how cops had foiled the terrorists evil van bomb plan in Newry.
A security operation which ended in the early hours of yesterday established the blue coloured Transit van contained a massive “sophisticated” 500lb device in a wheelie bin.
Army bomb experts carried out several controlled explosions on the vehicle which had been abandoned on Thursday at an underpass on the A1 Belfast-Dublin road, near Newry.
