Celebrity Big Brother star Calum Best: I partied hard to get over losing my dad

Calum opens up to his CBB housemates about dealing with the death of his father, George Best

Celebrity Big Brother star Calum Best has revealed his struggle to deal with his father's death saw his life spiral out of control.

Belfast's most famous son, football legend George Best died in 2005 following a long documented battle with alcoholism aged just 59.

In the wake of his passing, his only son Calum made a name for himself with his hard partying lifestyle and string of high profile relationships.

But in Friday night's episode of CBB on Channel 5, the 33-year-old opened up to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, and told him he had turned to the party scene because he was "traumatised" about his dad's death.

He also shot down talk of him being an alcoholic, and said he only ever drank to get over his father's death.

"Alcohol was never something I was worried about. I never woke up and drank all day," he told Perez.

"The only time I partied too hard was when I lost him and that was because I was traumatised."

Speaking about his father's addiction, Best told how his dad constantly got "wasted".

He said George would drink from eight in the morning until eight at night over a period of about forty years.

The reformed playboy added: "He gave it a go but he couldn't hack it. I'm devastated that I lost my old man so young."

Calum, who has been linked to a string of glamorous women including Lindsay Lohan, Elizabeth Jagger, Jodie Marsh, Sarah Harding, Donna Air and Georgia Salpa amongst others, said that he might be ready to put his womanising days behind him and settle down.

"I feel emotionally I have so much to give and share with someone else," he mused.

"I think there are deep, deep demons with commitment but I feel I shed most of them and I'm ready more than ever before.

"I'm young enough and there is still time."

Calum's new found emotional maturity might have something to do with a recent date with 49-year-old model and actress Liz Hurley who split with Aussie cricket bad boy Shane Warne in 2013.

The unlikely pair were spotted enjoying a secret meal together at a plush London hotel just weeks before Calum entered the CBB house.

An onlooker said the pair looked "cosy" and very happy in each other's company before sneaking out separately from the Blakes Hotel in south Kensington to avoid being photographed together.

Before entering the CBB house last week, Calum said he signed up "to show people what kind of person I am now as a 33-year-old man instead of a stupid 20-something-year-old".

Calum said he'd like to think his father would be proud of his for taking part, but added: "There's no way he would have gone on this show."

In the CBB house he has become close to fellow housemate, glamour model Cami Li and has shared a kiss with the 26-year-old.
