A BALLYMENA man has admitted harassing an ex-girlfriend who he threatened to leak “intimate images” of online.

At Ballymena Magistrates’ Court a prosecutor said the woman had been in a relationship with David Lamont (50), of Drumtara in the town, but when it ended she received “unwanted contact” from him. There were text messages and then emails when the number was blocked.

The lawyer said that at around 1am on one occasion the woman received an email in which Lamont “threatened to post intimate videos of her online which caused her much alarm and distress”.

When interviewed he confessed the email account was his and he was the only person with access. In court he admitted a charge of harassment and his lawyer said he now regretted it and was apologetic.

A defence lawyer told Thursday’s court “alcohol had been a factor” in the offending and said that the relationship had ended on “poor terms”.

The lawyer said Lamont sent a message the next day apologising for his late night message.

District Judge Nigel Broderick adopted a recommendation in a pre-sentence report and put him on probation for a year with a condition that he takes part in the ‘Respectful Relationships’ programme and a two year restraining order was also put in place.
