Nude man filmed walking down Belfast street faces three charges

By Christopher Woodhouse for Sunday Life

A MAN has appeared in court on charges linked to a dramatic incident on Thursday night when police arrested a person walking naked in Belfast.

Video footage of a man strolling completely naked on the Falls Road,  and carrying an object in his hand near the junction of St James's Road and the Falls Road was widely shared on social media.

Mahid Mohamed (35) appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court to face three charges including one of possessing a knife on November 1.

He was also accused of disorderly behaviour in a public place and of causing criminal damage to a police vehicle on the same date.

No bail application was made on behalf of Mohamed, of no fixed abode, but originally from Sudan.

He was remanded in custody to appear again on Thursday via videolink. On a clip of the shocking Falls Road incident shared on social media, one person can be heard saying: "That's proper like America s***, isn't it?"

In another clip of the incident the naked man approaches a police Land Rover after which three officers get out and move him to a nearby gate pillar and handcuff him while passing motorists beep their horns.
